Welcome to Norton High School Lacrosse

2015-2016 Season Highlights

Thank you for a wonderful season.

The Final Week

The 2016 seniors finished up the season with flare! Zac Zelinski and Alex Domagalski lead the defense, which held Bellingham to seven goals. This feat included several man-down minutes and even a moment when we were 3 men down.

Bobby Trudeau, Jacob VanDenBerghe and Luke Kane scored 1,3 and 5 goals respectively. All five will be missed for their contributions on the field but even more for their leadership.

Good job men!

The blog has been neglected the last few games due to the busy final week. However, the final game deserved some attention.

The team goals going into the season were to finish at .500 and to be ready to enter the TVL next year. The game against Bellingham accomplished both.

We finished with 9 wins and 8 losses. Bellingham is a TVL team, so we will be starting next season in good shape. By the end of next season we will be able to give Ashland and Medway a challenge.

As for the final game, Luke Kane and Josh Fuller came up big with 5 goals each. Jacob VanDenBerghe added three, and Bobby Trudeau scored one.

Zac Zelinski and Alex Domagalski played solid defense, especially on man-down. All five seniors had great games!

May 20 versus Southeastern Regional High School

Our game against Southeastern Regional was a continuation of the Taunton game. We came out controlling the ball and we were able to finish with a 16-6 win.

Josh Fuller scored early goals then was able to get the ball to other scorers ending with 5 goals and 4 assists.  Luke Kane added three goals and two assists.  The second midfield line contributed to the scoring with Andrew Raneri scoring two goals, Dan Salvo scoring 2 goals and an assist and Sam Bellavance scoring one assist.

The big story of the game, however, was the ground balls.  Joe Weber collected 12, Zac Zelinski finished with 6, and Raneri and Kane each added 5.  Face-offs added to the ground ball dominance: 20 wins to only 5 losses.

May 18 versus Taunton

Our game in Taunton was successful from the opening face-off until the final whistle.  We scored 14 goals and allowed only five shots on goal, two of which found net.

Josh Fuller was the big scorer with 7 goals and an assist. Joe Weber and Jacob VanDenBerghe each scored twice.  Rylie Coffey and Jake Palin each dealt three assists.

Good win, Men!

May 16 versus MetroLacrosse

After a week with no games the Lancers got back into the groove with their second win of the season over Metrolacrosse 8-4.  Sam Bellavance, Andrew Raneri, Josh Fuller, and Shaun Murphy each scored a goal and Luke Kane added three.  The defense allowed two in the first quarter, but was able to keep them from scoring any more until late in the game.  Mike DePont had a solid game in the net with 9 saves for 69%.

May 5 versus Dedham
Our JV game against Dedham started off a little concerning when they put up the first two goals of the game. We were able to respond, however, with an 8-3 win.  Our defense started communicating well and Nick Joyce was able to turn away 9 shots on cage.  Meanwhile the offense did a good job controlling the ball and seizing on opportunities.  Extra man offence was productive as well as a couple of transition goals.  Josh Fuller and Andrew Raneri each scored 3 goals. Andrew added an assist to go with 5 other assists from various players.

May 2 versus Taunton

The game against Taunton was a nice rebound from the previous day. We were able to find the net 13 times and hold them to only 3. The most exciting thing about the win was the 9 assists from 7 players.  The offense is showing some real teamwork!

The defense obviously played well with both goalies splitting time. Our D held them to only four shots in the first half.  Michael De Ponte turned the game over to Nick Joyce having turned in a solid 50% save total. Nick saw only six shots on cage and saved 5 for 83%.

Our game Friday is against Dedham, who is a JV program.  Then next week we hope to show Plymouth North that we have improved since our last game with them.

April 28 versus MetroLacrosse

Although MetroLacrosse has improved from last year's team, so has Norton.  With a 13-5 win, the Lancers saw 8 different players tally points. Eight of the goals were assisted. The defense also turned in a strong game supporting Michael DePonte in the cage. He saved seven for 58%.

April 26 versus Plymouth North High School

Plymouth North proved to be another team whom we aspire to be. Their ride was most impressive, making it difficult for our offense to get the ball, on their way to a 17-3 victory.
Luke Kane scored all three Lancer goals with one assist from Ryan Sudduth. Nick Joyce played well in the goal making fifteen saves in three quarters. Michael DePont finished the game with four quality stops.

April 25 versus Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School
Goalie, Nick Joyce, and the defense were the story of this game.  They held AMSA to 2 goals while the offense was able to score 7.  Nick finished with 15 saves for an 88% save total.  Luke Kane and Josh Fuller each tallied 3 goals, and Ryan Suddith added one goal and an assist.  It was his first career goal.  The team is looking to carry the momentum into tomorrow’s game at Plymouth North tomorrow.

Boys: April 20 versus Bellingham

The Lancers had another close 7-6 loss today. We allowed three goals in the first quarter. Then we held Bellingham to only one goal in each of the following periods. Unfortunately one of those periods was overtime. Notable games were played by Bobby Trudeau with 3 goals and Clint Gallagher, who had one assist and several ground balls.  Luke Kane, Joe Weber, and Josh Fuller each added a goal, and Jake Palin had an assist to account for the rest of our scores.
Our next game is Monday at the Academy for Math and Sciences, which is one of the two teams we beat last year.

Boys, April 16 versus Ashland
Ashland proved to be another opponent with whom Norton intends to be on the same level by the end of the season.  When we play again at the end of May, the score will surely be closer than 18-3.
Our goals came from Luke Kane, Bobby Trudeau and Jacob VanDenBerghe, his first of the season.  We also tallied one assist from Joe Weber.

Boys: April 14 versus Framingham
Framingham came to Norton and scored early and often.  They left with an 18-4 win.
Luke Kane tallied two goals. Josh Fuller and Bobby Trudeau each added one.
Assists came from Joe Weber, Andrew Raneri, and Zac Zelinski.

On to Ashland Saturday!

Boys:  April 12 versus Norwood

The team was ready from the start for our first home game. Bobby Trudeau scored in the first minute.  Neither team was able to get more than a two goal lead throughout the game that ended with an 8-7 loss to Norwood.

There were standout performances from a few players.  Luke Kane put in four goals for the second time in two games.  The defense played an exceptional game with several man-down minutes in the second quarter.

Goalie, Nick Joyce, finished with 16 saves for a 66% save percentage, which is outstanding!

Our next game is at home Friday against Framingham.

Great win for the boys!

April 11 versus Southeastern Regional

It was an evenly matched game: 3-4 Norton at the half,  4-4 going into the 4th quarter.
We were able to score 4 times in the fourth.
The last goal by Dan Salvo put it out of reach for them. That one goal made it 8-6 late in the game.
It was Dan' s first career goal!

The two captains had strong games.
Zelinski had several grand balls and clears, especially early, to set the tone on defense.
Kane finished with 5 points (4g, 1a).
